As a Connecticut resident, today's democratic primary has been very exciting. I have been unhappy with Lieberman for some years now, and his positions on the military, Iraq and judicial appointments are diametrically opposed to what I would hope from a Democratic (any) candidate. Now it looks like Lamont has won the Democratic nomination and Lieberman will run as an Independent. Hopefully, the Republican nominee is weak enough that splitting the vote won't be a complete disaster (apparently he used a fake ID to gamble at the CT casinos). Lieberman spent his entire "concession" speech talking about how Lamont was playing partisan politics. He should really have been addressing the real, pressing issues that many of the residents of Connecticut disagree with him about. Looks like it will be a lively fall of campaigning.

My new excitement is vacations. I used to take vacations to visit family, or as an add-on to a trip for work. I discovered the joy of a vacation for no other reason than to do nothing this February. How come no one told me about this earlier?!? Vacations are great! This one was to an island with nothing but beaches. The water was the kind of blue they reserve for advertisements. Once I got the bug, I couldn't stop. I look for hotels and frequent flyer tickets online. I check out the reviews online. I compare prices for oceanfront villas. I've already taken my second vacation for no reason to Florida in June (a much better time to go to the gulf coast than you would think). Now I just have to find the perfect location for a February getaway. I'm thinking about the desert.

Tropical storm Beryl is coming our way. I've taken in the porch swing, put down the umbrella and closed all the windows. The storm is supposed to pass south of here and then hit the coast of Massachussetts. One mixed advantage of living near the coast is watching a Nor'easter blow up from the south. The colors the sky gets can be bizarre. At the moment, it's a sort of grey/purple. Of course, when the sky gets that color, I start watching the weather channel. Beryl's path is still clearing us by lots of miles.
